5th Grade Guided Reading "A Stranger Came Ashore"

We are currently half way through the book, "A Stranger Came Ashore". I would like your thoughts on a few questions.

1. Is Finn Learson an evil man? (Why do you think this?)
2. If you were Elspeth, would you choose Nicol or Finn? (Why)
3. Why was Finn angry with Robbie after he pulled him into the boat?

Has reading this book changed your mind about reading? How?
Well, the first quarter is almost over and I love my new position. In the computer lab we have had 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students blog on how it feels to be a leader at Bolton. Fifth graders have created a diagram using Microsoft word on the water cycle. Fourth graders are creating a voice thread for the counties of North Carolina based on information they researched on their county. Third graders have learned how to do spreadsheets using Excel. My 5th grade guided reading group are reading "A Stranger Came Ashore". They will be creating a voice thread on the book as soon as we finish reading.
If any of the Bolton teachers would like to intergrate core curriculum in with the technology connection class, please let me know.

A Whole New School Year

The 2009 - 2010 school year is coming soon and will offer many new and exciting challenges. I look forward to working more with technology and working with students in small reading groups. I will be leaving my comfort zone of an individual classroom, however, it will give me the opportunity to work with a greater range of students in different grade levels.

This year I will be challenging myself and well as my students to leave our comfort zones and push ourselves to a greater learning experience.
